Bishop's Visit
Our Bishop was at the church this evening, November 26, 2003, to discuss the issue of same-sex blessings that is presently under review. Approximately 50 persons from St. Andrew's as well as from St. Alban's Church were in attendance. The photos above show the formal assembly (three leftmost photos) as well as the social gathering after the discussion period (other two photos). The controversy within the Church about same-sex unions in recent months has been a source of enormous stress and mental overload to him personally, he said, and the subject is a great struggle to deal with by the Church in general. The bishop considered the issue in light of what is sometimes referred to as “the four-legged stool” [Scripture, tradition, reason & experience] saying that we cannot view the Bible blindly without reference to those other factors. He was unable to answer all the questions raised but emphasized that the Anglican Church has been able to survive in the past despite great differences of opinion and , in some cases, differences of practice. The same will hopefully apply in this case, he said, and with this Diocese in particular..
